In 1983, President Reagan proclaimed April to be the first National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a tradition that continues to this day. Since then, National Child Abuse Prevention Month has been the catalyst that encourages communities to share child abuse and neglect prevention awareness strategies as well as activities to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families.

As the month of April begins, The Florida Network offers its support to National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month is a time to recognize the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Together we can protect today’s youth and create safe, stable environments that allow youth to reach their full potential.

The theme for this year’s National Child Abuse Prevention Month is “Making Meaningful Connections.” When we make meaningful connections with the children, youth and families in our communities, we help parents build the knowledge, skills and access to resources necessary to raise happy and healthy children. Everyone can play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect and promoting child and family well-being.
