History

In October 2002, President Bush hosted the White House Conference on Missing, Exploited and Runaway Children. Leaders from across the nation convened to discuss the responsibility we all have to protect America’s youth and worked with National Runaway Safeline (NRS) and the National Network for Youth (NN4Y) to propose National Runaway Prevention Month.

The campaign’s goals are to:

  • Increase public awareness of the issues facing runaways
  • Educate the public about the solutions and the role they can play in preventing youth from running away.

How can you help?

Working together to identify resources and to help youth develop life skills can make the difference between a youth running away and/or finding needed resources. How can you help runaway youth?

How the Florida Network helps

The Florida Network of Youth and Family Services partners with NRS and NN4Y to help runaway and troubled youth in Florida. Our member agencies provide counseling and support services to runaway youth, as well as children at risk of running away. If you or someone you know is having issues at home that may lead to youth running away from home, please visit our website at www.floridanetwork.org or call us at (850) 922-4324.

November 2014

This year’s National Runaway Prevention Month’s theme is “Piecing it all Together.” The theme represents the overlap between various youth issues, such as bullying, abuse, youth violence, human trafficking, LGBTQ, foster care, substance abuse and the juvenile justice system.
