Of the 2,000 names listed on the Florida Network’s Wall of Gratitude, each person plays an essential role in helping families during their darkest times. In this series, “Stories Under the Roof”, we will introduce you to some of these remarkable professionals and the stories that motivate them to show up and make a positive difference in the lives of Florida’s youth and families each and every day. Today, we would like to introduce you to Saxon Bowler from Family Resources.

Has the pandemic changed your perspective on your work?

Yes, now I worry more. I worry people think we are closed and there is no “Safe Place” for food, shelter or freedom from violence or helplessness. I worry about where they are and where they’re sleeping. I am worried more for the youth who no longer see a point for continuing their education because “grades no longer matter,” even though next school year is coming. Can you say: repeating the cycle?

What do you want to tell the general public about the work you do?

As little as possible. I KNOW they mean well when they say, “Oh, God, that is so hard. I couldn’t do that all day!” But that totally negates the beauty and brilliance and love these kids bring with them – and if that is the overriding mainstream populace attitude, no wonder I even “have” these kids.

What is keeping you motivated?

My company has been a shining example of care and I am proud of it. The frontline workers have been given bonuses, increases and props in every sort of manner. They care for us so we can care for the youth. The youth aren’t stressed any more than absolutely necessary because the staff feels empowered. Empowered people are easy to work with. It makes me feel like we are a family and I am motivated to live up to that standard.

What are you most looking forward to when this is over?

Outings!!!! WE. ARE. GOING. TO. THE. BEACH.

The Network is so grateful for Saxon and her motivation through trying times. People with her passion are the reason that the Network can impact so many lives!
